Friday was my last day flying at Parafield, and it was kind of a mixed bag. I was supposed to fly at noon, but then Kara came into the classroom because her student cancelled last minute. She needed someone to fill the spot, and lucky me, I got it.
I aimed to fly solo by the end of this trip, but it just didn’t happen. Instead of getting bummed out about it, I decided to just enjoy the flight. It was early in the morning, and the weather was super calm. Smooth skies, no pressure, just the pure joy of flying.
And without all that weight on my shoulders, I flew so much better. All the little things I usually worry about just didn’t seem to matter as much. I’ve reckoned I’m probably way too harsh on myself most of the time. When I just let go and enjoyed the moment, everything seemed to flow better.
Looking back on the past 2 weeks, I’ve learnt a lot not just about flying, but about dealing with stuff that doesn’t always go your way. Most of my flights were in the middle of the day when the weather was a bit more ….lively haha. Kara said something that really stuck with me: “I’ve landed a thousand times. You’re still early in your journey, so don’t expect to be as effortless as someone who’s done it over and over.” It was reminder that I’m just a student, not a fighter jet pilot. Sometimes, you need to step back and acknowledge where you are in the process, and that it’s okay to still be finding your way. While It’s easy to fly when the skies are calm, but it’s those tougher flights that teach you the most. You adapt, you learn, you push through.
Lastly, I need to thank the people who’ve been with me on this journey. Chris, my main instructor, has been amazing. I’ll never forget him saying on the first day, “I’m not here to just rack up hours for the airlines. I genuinely love teaching.” I could feel that in every lesson. And Kara, even though I only flew with her twice, she brought great energy & encouragement to the cockpit. I also want to give a shout-out to my fellow batch mates. You guys made the training fun and enjoyable, it’s been great sharing this experience with each of you. And of course Calvin from HKFTC for organising everything.
